you enjoy live music, the theater, or appreciate our The Dalles Art Center features regional artist exhibits which rotate monthly, traveling shows, and ongoing art workshops. The gallery works are for sale and could provide just the right piece of art for your home or office. The art center is housed in the 1909 Carnegie Library located at the corner of 4th and Washington in the historic downtown. The Dalles Public Library is open six days a week. The library serves the public with over 44,000 books, magazines and periodicals. |

The Granada Theatre provides another great historic venue for a variety of cultural performances. Annual schedule includes Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre, The Missoula Children's Theatre Company and the annual Discovery Center holiday fundraiser with The Oregon Trail Band. Visit their website for an up to date schedule of performances. You can say that The Cascade Singers, under the direction of Lloyd Walworth, perform here, there and everywhere! This ensemble has performed in Carnegie Hall and in Europe. And although there is not a regular performance schedule, you can be sure and catch exceptional holiday performances usually at St. Peter's Landmark. The area in and around The Dalles has been a center of trade for over ten thousand years. Here, the indigenous people have gathered for trade, fishing, gambling, and family reunions. Here you find "The Decision at The Dalles" of the Oregon Trail; Rock Fort, a Lewis and Clark Expedition encampment ; Celilo, the site of the tribal gathering and fishing, and much, much more. Historical buildings, archeological sites, museums. The Dalles can offer it all. The downtown historical walking tour is a self-guided tour with maps available at The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. It includes such significant landmarks as Wasco County Original Courthouse, St. Peter's Landmark, and the historic murals of downtown.
Located at the top of hill of the downtown area is old Ft. Dalles Museum, the oldest museum in the state of Oregon. One street south is The Rorick House. This historic site was part of the original fort as well. Then follow the street to Pulpit Rock where each Easter the sermon and "The Last Days of Christ" is performed. And to the east of town is The Dalles Dam and Locks Visitor Center. |

| Restaurants, Retail, Wine The Dalles
Area has been a center of trade for 10,000 years and continues to fill
that niche today. The area features well recognized chain stores as
well as small and charming boutique shops that meet both everyday necessities
as well as gift-giving. Among the businesses of the historic downtown
is Klindt's Booksellers and Stationers, the oldest bookstore in the

is also fast becoming a destination for the wine connoisseur and home
to the oldest vineyard in Oregon. Wineries and tasting rooms dot the

Dalles Area offers both residents and visitors alike a number of dining
options for the Mid-Columbia Region. Italian, Chinese, Mexican (Casa
El Mirador), or just plain down home cooking (Cousin's)
is easily available along with a wide variety of fast food options. Dining
adventures can be experienced by venturing out to such out of the way
places as Antelope Store and Café, The
Lyle Hotel and Restaurant or the dining room at The
Hotel Condon. A little closer to home enjoy historic ambience
at The Baldwin Saloon or perhaps Pasquale's
