Located along the banks of the mighty Columbia River and east of the Cascades, The Dalles, Oregon, just 86 miles east of Portland serves as the eastern gateway for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

The area experiences four distinct seasons, but finds sunny skies throughout most of each season. Precipitation annually averages 14.41 inches. The average for the months from November through March is 10.89 inches, with only 3.62 inches of precipitation in the other seven months of the
year. The average high temperature for the month of January is 41.1 with an average high for July at 99.1.
The average low temperature for the month of January is 28.2 with a low for July 61.0.



The town is built upon the hills of the gorge and the terrain is a combination of forested, orchards, and high desert. The town is surrounded by cherry orchards with large wheat ranches located just to the east. Views include Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, the Klickitats and the Columbia River.
