Job Retention and Creation

Job retention and creation is a top priority for communities throughout Eastern and Central Oregon. To respond to this need the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has created a regional business response team to facilitate economic growth in the 18 counties of Eastern and Central Oregon.

Regional Business Response Team

The Eastern Region Business Response Team consists of managers representing DEQ's Water Quality, Air Quality, Hazardous Waste and Cleanup, and Solid Waste and Fuel Tanks programs. The goal of the team is to facilitate economic development - while continuing to protect Oregon's land, air, and water - by proactively resolving permitting and other environmental regulatory issues that sometimes delay business development and expansion.

To facilitate economic development the Business Response Team will:

· Coordinate cross-program responses to business development needs
· Identify a team member to act as a single point of contact for cross-program information
· Streamline the regulatory process by working with businesses early in the expansion/siting process to understand permit needs and working with staff to overcome environmental obstacles
· Provide technical assistance for businesses to help them find ways to reduce regulatory oversight
· Collaborate with state and local economic development specialists and business leaders, regional Community Solution Teams, and county alliances to encourage early DEQ involvement in business expansion and siting

Assisting in job retention and creation, including industrial development and business expansion, is a priority for the Business Response Team.
